December 20 1945- October 31, 2024 Ruth Long of Atwood passed away peacefully and surrounded by family at Listowel Memorial Hospital on October 31, 2024, at the age of 78. Beloved wife of Bill Long for 61years. Loving mother of Deb (Ron) Wilson of Atwood, Tom (Julie) Long of Barrie and Jim (Barbara) Long of Oakville. Cherished grandmother of Amanda and Becky Wilson, Hannah (Marco) Wiegand, Eric, Andrew and Annika Long. Recently, she welcomed her first great-grandchild, Arthur Wiegand. Fondly remembered by brother Jim (Linda) Whitney, Sister-in-laws Faye Whitney, Marion (Lloyd) Knoblauch, Joyce (Jim) Spence, Susan (Robert) Martin, Carol (Kevin) Gurr and Elizabeth Long. Also remembered by Brother in Laws David (Francis) Long, Donald (Wanda) Long and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Predeceased by her parents Jean and Wesley and brother David Whitney, Sister-in-Law Diane Sabrowski and Brothers in law Murray Long and Murray McCourt. After successful careers in sales and business ownership, Ruth spent many years as a lay minister in the United Church. Ruth was happiest serving her community, church and family. A celebration of life will be held Monday November 4th from 1PM-4PM with words of remembrance at 3 PM at the Elma Memorial Community Centre 251 Main St. Atwood, ON. Father of John Reimer of Wallenstein, Abe (Jennifer) Reimer of Alma, Trudy Reimer of Elmira and Mark Reimer of Elmira. Grandfather of Connor Reimer. He will be missed by his siblings Tina (Jacob) Dyck of Milverton, Susana (Cornielius) Reddecop of Mexico, Margaretha (Abraham) Thiesen of Tillsonburg, Lisa Reimer of St. Thomas, Abe (Catherine) Reimer of Milverton and Helen Reimer. Predeceased by his parents Abram Reimer and Margartha Peters and his siblings Martin, Helen, Martin and Anna all in infancy. July 17, 1933- October 24, 2024 Marlene passed away peacefully at Listowel Memorial Hospital on October 24, 2024 at the age of 91 Survived by her son Richard Hiusser and daughters Valerie (Doug) Ropp and Jean (Clarence) Van Der Straeten. Remembered by her grandchildren Jennifer (Perry) Ohm, Matthew (Carla) Ropp, Courtney (Kyle) Werth, Devin (Brittany) Van Der Straeten, Andrew (Sarah) Van Der Straeten. Cherished great grandmother of Jill, Carrson, Maddy, Claire, Carter, Melina, Kolby, Madison (Ben), Myra, Alyce and great great grandchild Olivia. Predeceased by her daughter Donna, parents Andrew and Lilian (Norton) Chapman, her sister Gladys (Jim) White and brother Bill (Muriel) Chapman. Patricia (King) McIntosh – Patricia (Pat) passed away suddenly, Saturday October 12, 2024. Devoted wife and best friend of the late Donald McIntosh (2021) for over 57 years. Pat will be missed by her sons Scott (Lisa), Christopher (Chris), grandkids Mackenzie (Houston) and Layne, her brother Len (Carol), nephew Steven (Victoria), and many friends from over the decades. Patricia was a devoted and proud secretary for the OPP for well over 3 decades, mentioning the rare phenomenon of enjoying every single day she worked. Pat loved her family and spent time in the last few years traveling with them. Pat was a former Atwood Lioness Club Founding Member and President. Predeceased by her mother and father Joan and Len Sr., mother-in-law and father-in-law Edith and Gourley, brothers Greg and Dana, and niece Laurie, sisters-in-law Donna and Ruth. Survived by numerous nieces, nephews and extended family. At Pat’s request, there will be no visitation or funeral. A private interment will be held at a later date. July 1, 1943- October 6, 2024 Harold Kropf, of Clinton, formerly of Cranbrook and Newry, passed away suddenly at home on October 6, 2024 at the age of 81. Beloved husband of Denise Kropf (nee Schwartz). Loving father of Sherri (Gordon) Ford, Terry Kropf, Stephen (Rebecca) Kropf and Shelly Kropf. Cherished grandfather of Ashley, Crystal (Mark), Jenna (Justin), Justin (Avery), Erik, Cody (Marissa), Ethan (Chelsey), Jayden, Kierstin and Kylynn. Great grandfather of 12. Survived by his siblings Kathleen Farnady (Rick) and Robert (Peggy) Kropf. Predeceased by his parents Mervin and Dorothy Kropf. He will be missed by many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins Harold and his brother owned and operated their own construction business for over 30 year. Harold enjoyed his time with his family especially his grandchildren and great grandchildren. Harold was always helping anyone who needed it. He had a passion for wood working and building anything and everything. Visitation will take place on October 10th from 2-4 PM and 6-8 PM at the Brenneman Funeral Home 141 John St Atwood. April 7,1929- August 21, 2024 Born-April 7, 1929 in London, England where she resided until she was 18. Cherie then moved to Gorrie ON in 1947, met Jasper Farrish in 1948. They were married 3 months later and remained married until Jasper's passing in 2018. Cherie was a strong member of the church in Gorrie. She had a passion for singing, gardening and baking. Cherie will be missed by her surviving daughter, Linda Duncan (Farrish) and husband Brian Duncan, son Ian Farrish, daughter in-law Bonnie Farrish as well as by her many grand and great grandchildren. Predeceased by Husband Jasper, and children Micheal and Brent. Cremation has taken place. Memorial donations may be made to London Health Science Centre or Listowel Salvation Army Food Bank. December 27, 1934 - August 18, 2024 Of Listowel passed away peacefully at Listowel Memorial Hospital with her daughters by her side on Sunday August 18th, 2024 at the age of 89. Loving and devoted mother of Nancy (Bill) Schlotzhauer of Stratford, Rick of Mississauga, Jane (Jeff) Johnson of Listowel and Tracy (Jeff) Bender of Listowel. Cherished grandmother of Jeremy, Matthew, Kristopher, Ashley (Shawn), Jordan (Brandee), Kelsey (Mac), Adam (Stephanie), Jessica (Cole), Brittney (Jordan), Abbey (Matthew), Travis (Brittany) and 20 great grandchildren who will miss her tremendously. Loved and fondly remembered by her brothers Doug (the late Berniece) McEwen of Monkton, Roy (Joan) of Milverton and sister in law Marjorie (the late Barry) McEwen of Stratford. She will also be remembered by her many nieces and nephews and their families who loved their Aunt Joyce. Joyce also touched the lives of extended family, friends and neighbours with her warm and welcoming nature and will be dearly missed by everyone who knew and loved her. She will be especially missed by her best friend Shirley Linton with whom she shared a special bond for over 80 years. Joyce’s greatest pleasure was having her family around her for visits or larger family gatherings. Joyce was an accomplished quilter, gifting many of her creations to family and friends over the years. She also enjoyed the numerous bus trips taken with friends throughout the years. With all its challenges and rewards, Joyce loved her life on the farm, helping her husband Bev (predeceased, 2015) with whatever needed to be done, as well as all the cooking, baking, gardening, sewing and especially raising her four children. We will be forever grateful to her for instilling that work ethic and quiet strength in all of us. A celebration of her life will be held on Saturday August 31, 2024 from 2 PM-4 PM at the Elma Logan Recreation Complex in Monkton. Words of remembrance will be shared at 2:30PM. Loving mother of Douglas of Atwood, Barry (Lynda) Long of Atwood, Karen (Bruce) Smith of Atwood, Wayne (Jan) Long of Hanover, and Kenny (Brenda) Long of Atwood. Cherished grandmother of Laurie (Gerry) Henderson, Bryan Long (Shannon McFadden), Derek (Laura) Smith, Shelley (Matt) Sessions, Courtney (Eric) Hopkins, Nichole (Kris) MacDonald, Jenna Long (Chris Turner), Trevor (Christine) Long, Jordan Long, Riley Long and great grandmother of 19 great grandchildren. Fondly remembered by brother Fred Scholl, sister-in-law Maxine Scholl and many nieces, nephews and cousins. Predeceased by her parents John and Isabel (nee Wilson) Scholl, brother William in infancy, brother Jack Scholl, sister Eileen (Erwin (Fleischauer) and sister-in-law Marjorie Scholl. Gertie was a long-time member of the Atwood UCW and drove bus for 20+ years at Newry Bus Lines. Gertie and Bruce were proud owners of Long's Grocery Store in Newry. Gertie’s true passions in life were cooking, baking, playing cards and spending time with her family which she was very proud of. May 20, 1951 - July 21, 2024 Glenys Jean Smith of Listowel, passed away peacefully at Listowel Memorial Hospital on Sunday July 21, 2024 at the age of 73. Loving mom to Stacey and Patrick Bailey of Listowel, Shawn and Alicia Smith of Ethel, Kaley Smith and Al Pomerant of Toronto, and Cole and Taylor Smith of Ethel. Devoted grandma to Karson, Kai, Blake, Emerson, Ayda, Augie and Kohen. Cherished sister to Pete and Ann Steuernol of Midhurst. Predeceased by her parents Mac Nay and Beryl Steuernol. Glenys was born in Wingham on May 20, 1951 and grew up outside of Wroxeter. She lived on a farm outside of Atwood for many years, raising four children. In addition to the many tasks on the farm, she especially loved cutting the grass and improving her tan. Glenys was a cherished member of the community. She had a warm welcome to those that came into Chocolates on Main and Life’s A Party. She was a social butterfly and enjoyed connecting with people and sharing stories. We wonder how the local news will continue in her absence. We will miss her love, listening ear and soft heart. Family gatherings will not be the same without her. Her deviled eggs were top notch. This loss is felt deeply by her family and friends. She made a lasting impression on those she met. Glenys’ family is very grateful for the time and love of those who have helped her and the family during this time. Special thank you to the entire staff at Listowel Memorial Hospital who supported Glenys and her family over the last two months. Cremation has taken place. - Lloyd Turney
June 9, 1935 - September 10, 2021 Lloyd Turney – Sadly on Friday September 10, 2021, Lloyd Turney passed away peacefully at Caressant Care Nursing Home at the age of 86. Lloyd was born at home in Damascus on June 9, 1935 and resided with his parents until he met, fell in love and married Donna Crowe in 1957. Lloyd will be remembered for so many things. A few that should make you smile and nod your head and think “oh ya, I remember that about Lloyd” are his love and devotion for Donna and his children, extended family and neighbours. He considered everyone he met a friend. He was an active member of Calvary United Church, having held several committee and board positions. For the last 20 years, after “shushing” us to listen to In Memoriam on CKNX, he would go to the Legion for an afternoon of Lost Heir. Lloyd enjoyed playing cards, travelling/camping and fixing whatever needed “fixin”. He worked at Moore’s Produce and Horizon Poultry in St. Mary’s until his retirement at 65 when he took up driving for Hudson’s and volunteering with Meals on Wheels. For the last 8 or 9 years, Lloyd would stop shaving at Christmas and not shave again until spring – you either loved or hated that look. Lloyd has lived a full and bountiful life and was surely blessed indeed. Beloved husband for 50 years of the late Donna (Crowe) who predeceased him in 2008. Loving father of Ken (Judy), Keith (Jill), Greg (Darlene), Gayle Ludington (David), Tricia MacMillan (Dwight). Special grandpa of Jennifer (Rob), Melissa (Dave), Laura (Druce), Becky (Kyle), Caitlin (Luke), Jessica (Mike), Nicole (Mike), Brooke (Jamie), Alexandra (Shane), Ashley, Mary Pat (Nick), Alicia (Cody), Jamie (Sadie), Dylan (Riley), Dayton and 18 great-grandchildren. Fondly remembered by brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law Cecil Cowan, Dianna Turney, Wanda Bridge, Anne and Darryl Abbott, Velma and Ron Hamilton, Francis and David Long as well as many nieces, nephews and dear friend Joan McDonald. He was the youngest of 9 children born to Archie & Florence (Ridsdale) Turney, and was the last surviving member of that generation. Lloyd has finally been called home to join his family, brothers Emerson (in infancy), Howard, Garnet, Ralph, sisters Ollie Moore, Franny Johnston, Gladys Gopsil and Freeda Cowan, sister-in-law Karen Crowe, brothers-in-law Sonny Crowe and Roy Bridge. Relatives and friends are invited to share their memories at the Elma Memorial Community Centre, Atwood, on Monday September 13 from 2-4 & 6-8 p.m. where the funeral service to celebrate Lloyd’s life will be held on Tuesday September 14, 2021 at 1:00 p.m. with Pastor Brian Hymer’s officiating. Interment in Elma Centre Cemetery, Atwood. Appointments are not required. Masks are mandatory and social distancing must be respected. December 20, 1950- June 24, 2024 Eldon “Scotty” Offen 73 of Edmonton and formerly of Monkton, passed away June 24, 2024, in Edmonton Alberta. Preceded by his parents Frank and Edna Offen. Survived by his sister Sharilyn and nieces Tanya and Teresa, Remembered by step nieces, nephews and their families. Eldon was a construction worker for almost 50 years. The last 20 years of his career was spent working at Sureway Construction in Edmonton He took great pride in his work and he was a mentor to the young workers. March 5, 1948 - June 23, 2024 It is with great sadness that we announce the sudden passing of Irvin Henry Strickert on June 23, 2024 at the age of 76 while away on a fishing trip with his friends, doing what he loved. Lovingly remembered and never forgotten by his wife of 54 years Shirley Strickert (Elg). Irvin was surrounded in life by so much love and laughter from his family and friends. He was a proud and loving father to Chris Strickert, Patti (Steve) Cullen and Tim (Tisha) Strickert. Blessed grandfather to Tyler, Jaret, Evan, Clarissa, Jansen and Maianh. Fur-baby dad to Oakie Dokie who will miss his cuddles. Also Fondly remembered by Kelly & her family Michelle, Joe and their children. Survived by his brother John Strickert of Peace River, Mary Hartman of Elora, Frieda (Les) Ducharme of Sherwood Park and Lillian Lynch (David) of Kitchener. Irvin truly cherished his close friends, the many memories they made being there for him and Shirley. He would never say no to having a drink with a friend or playing a game of cards. He had a great sense of humour although at times you would have to read between the lines. He enjoyed retirement the last 11 years. His passion for baking apple pies, rug hooking, wood working, “his” vegetable garden, telling stories, prepping vegetables and his 1976 Nova will always be treasured by his family and friends. In Irvin’s memory please say “Cheers” We love you today, tomorrow and always.
