Marjorie Smith

May 21, 1928 to August 4, 2016

Marjorie Louise Smith – passed away peacefully at the Ritz Lutheran Villa on Thursday August 4, 2016. Born May 21, 1928, daughter of Hugh and Reba (Boyd) Gilmour. Marj was a dedicated member of Knox Presbyterian Church, Listowel and the Willing Workers. She enjoyed 17 years working at Sears in Listowel. She spent many hours crocheting her “special mama” blankets that will always be cherished by her beloved family and friends. Loving mother of Kenzie and Robin Smith of Molesworth, Donna and Dennis Biehn of Listowel, Chief and Shirley Smith of RR2 Listowel, Sharon and Murray Clarke of Molesworth. Special Mama to Kristal and Brandon Zyta, Ryan and Richelle Smith, Stacey and Paul MacEwen, Torie and Derek Machan, Alanis Clarke and friend Ryan Portena, and Austin Clarke. The best GREAT mama to Abby, Makinley, Aleah, Pierce, Keaton and friend Holly, Holden and Bexlie. Also survived by her sister Audrey and Ken McKague of Wingham and her nieces and nephews. Marj will also be missed by many special friends. Predeceased by her parents Hugh and Reba Gilmour, her sister Marion Campbell and brother-in-law Don Campbell, and her sister Grace Gilmour. A special thanks to the staff at Listowel Memorial Hospital and a very special thanks to “the angels on earth” at the Ritz Villa in Mitchell. They went above and beyond to make sure our mom and mama’s last weeks were as comfortable as possible. Although Marj was only there for a short amount of time, all of the staff loved her and because of that they will be held in a special place in our hearts. At Marj’s request there will be no visitation. A celebration of her life will be held on Sunday August 7, 2016 at the Listowel Legion, 565 Elizabeth Street East, from 1 – 4 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations to: Ronald McDonald House South Western Ontario 741 Base Line Rd.
