Gerard Schalk

March 2, 1940 to December 26, 2015

Gerard Schalk of Listowel, passed away peacefully surrounded by his family at Listowel Memorial Hospital on Saturday December 26, 2015 at the age of 75. Gerard was a member of Atwood Presbyterian Church. He was a former businessman in Atwood/Listowel as owner of Gerard Schalk Auto Body and a member of the Royal Canadian Legion Br. 259 Listowel. Gerard cherished the time spent with his family while camping, snowmobiling, travelling across this country and travelling abroad. He was an avid Nascar fan who followed his Fords from the livingroom as well as visiting many of the tracks. Devoted husband of Edith (Ropp) Schalk whom he married in 1964. Loving father of Susan and Jamie Murr, Laurie Schalk, Donald Schalk. Proud grandfather of Michelle and Chad, Mahria and Mike, Cody, Kurtis, Danielle and Eileen, and Derek. Great-grandfather of Cohen, Carter and Hadley. Dear brother of Willa Ament. Fondly remembered by brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law Bill Ropp, Fred and Verna Ropp, Marg and Bruce Bates, Doug and Valerie Ropp and many nieces, nephews and cousins. Predeceased by his parents Gerard Sr. and Marie Schalk, brothers Henk and wife Janet, Cor and wife Joyce, sister Erna and husband Bill Lucas and brother-in-law Gordon Ament. Relatives and friends are invited to share their memories at the Brenneman Funeral Home, 141 John Street, Atwood (519-356-2382), on Monday December 28 from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. The funeral service to celebrate Gerard's life will be held at Atwood Presbyterian Church, on Tuesday December 29, 2015 at 11:00 a.m. with Rev. Ralph Dwarika officiating. Interment in Elma Centre Cemetery, Atwood.
