Arend Runhart

September 2, 1927 to December 30, 2009

Arend passed away unexpectedly at Guelph General Hospital on Wednesday December 30, 2009. He resided in Atwood and was born 82 years ago in The Netherlands, a son of the late John and Henrietta (Dekker) Runhart. As a founding member of the Atwood Fire Department, Arend held the position of Captain for most of his 20 years of service. He enjoyed spending time on small wood working projects and was very proud of his caretaking duties at the Elma Centre Cemetery, a position he held for many years until his retirement in 2006. Beloved husband of Neah (Abbott) Runhart whom he married in 1951. Loving father of Allan Runhart and friend Diane of Atwood, Louise and Ken Rea of Atwood, Daniel Runhart of Hensall, Kevin (Tree) and Mary Jane Runhart of Mitchell, Murray and Darlene Runhart of Atwood. Special grandpa of Nancy, Ben, Amy, Sara, Beth, Stephen, Rachel, Nathan, Rebecca, Terry, Michelle, Megan, Ryan, Sabrina, Richard and 8 great grandchildren. Dear brother of Fem Nyhoff of Harrow, Henry and Ruth Runhart of Kitchener, Jenny and Don Wightman of Kitchener, Joe Runhart of Mount Pleasant. Fondly remembered by Margaret Runhart of Exeter, sisters-in-law Doreen Brockwell of Peterborough, Elaine Runhart of London and by many nieces & nephews. Predeceased by his grandson Jon, brothers Henry in infancy, Johnny and Gerrit, brother-in-law Henry Nyhoff and sister-in-law Sonja Runhart. Arend's family invites relatives and friends to share their memories at the Brenneman Funeral Home 141 John Street, Atwood (519-356-2382), on Friday January 1, 2010 from 2-4 & 7-9 p.m. where the funeral service to celebrate his life will be held on Saturday January 2, 2010 at 2:00 p.m. with Rev. John Hogerwaard officiating. Spring interment in Elma Centre Cemetery, Atwood.
